For many, summer ends when the new school year starts. The calendar says that it ended on September 21st. But for me, it came to an end yesterday, October 5th, when our weekend guests went home. It was a crazy, busy summer. May and June were relatively quiet and normal; but July came and it kicked into high-gear. EAA's annual AirVenture is the last week in July and don't ever plan on us being home then, because we are there camping with our "AirVentrous family", watching planes soar and eating too much :) This year I also started a new personal chef service for those attending the event and renting homes. It was great fun getting to meet new people, blending business and personal plans for the fly-in was exhausting...I can't wait to do it again next year! August is "getting ready for school month". My daughter rushed in and out the front door - working as much as possible, catching up with friends, taking last minute fun-trips and shopping for the next college semester. In between all her busy plans, I tried to capture the last remnants of mother/daughter time and coordinate a few trips to the mall. Daughter #2 and only-son popped in too for last minute family time. College moving day was an all-day-event. Why do they make dorm hallways so narrow?! On September 21st my daughter and I participated in the Fox Cities Community Marathon. Once again, I was in the competitive division of the 1/2 marathon powerwalk. This was a first time for my daughter, so she did the non-competitive walk. We finished the 13.1 miles in just over 3 hours. We walked together for the first 8 miles, mom encouraging daughter, but then fatigue set in and we split up. I crossed the finish line first and she followed about 15 minutes behind. I felt great afterwards, not sore at all; I'm not sure if she'll walk with me next year, though :) Then came this past weekend, the much anticipated AirVentrous Family Reunion. It was a BLAST! We all ate too much, talked stupid around the bonfire, kept the evening chill away with Peppermint Patties and just enjoyed each other's company. The guys talked about airplanes and the girls gabbed about family life. There were even a few BOOMS & BANGS. No one wanted the weekend or our summer to end. |
